Policy Statements on Quality of Life

As a physician, I am no stranger to technology and use it every day in my practice. I recognize its great benefits, but increasingly we are all becoming aware of its risks.

Self-driving cars appear not ready for prime-time, and commercial drones will pose a threat to the privacy and quiet of our neighborhoods.  Our online purchases and other internet communications leave us increasingly vulnerable to cyber theft and spying.

State legislatures can and should be debating the role of new technologies in our state guidelines and restrictions.

In 1968 Vermont made the decision to ban highway billboards. More recently some towns have pushed back against huge wind turbines dotting their ridgelines.

We are an independent-minded state and just might show the rest of the nation how to find some sanity and balance in this technologically changing world.
